A simple procedure—with a recovery that’s just as manageable.
A hysteroscopy is a common, minimally invasive procedure that helps your doctor look inside the uterus to diagnose or treat certain conditions. In this video, Dr. Leigh Rosen explains what to expect afterwards—so you can feel calm, prepared, and supported.
What to Expect During Recovery
- Quick and gentle: A camera is inserted through the cervix into the uterus to identify and treat issues like polyps, fibroids, uterine septums, or scar tissue (Asherman’s).
- Mild symptoms are common: You might experience light bleeding, spotting, or cramping. Some people bleed right away, others a few days later—either is normal.
- Over-the-counter relief: Advil or Tylenol usually helps with any discomfort. Mild sensitivity or burning may occur from antiseptic used during the procedure.
- Vaginal rest is essential: For two weeks, avoid sex, tampons, baths, or swimming. Use pads if bleeding occurs.
- Follow-up matters: You’ll meet with your provider to review any biopsies and confirm everything is healing as expected.
