Dr. Leigh Rosen and colleagues at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai present a SMFM 2024 abstract comparing operative outcomes for abdominal myomectomies performed using Cherney incisions versus Pfannenstiel incisions. In a retrospective cohort of 272 abdominal myomectomies (72 Cherney, 199 Pfannenstiel) performed between April 2021 and March 2023, the team found Cherney incisions tended to be used for larger uteri and took significantly longer to perform, while overall intraoperative complication rates and postoperative pain were low in both groups — providing one of the first published comparisons of these two incision types for fibroid surgery.
