Teenage Gynecology
This visit involves the first visit to a gynecologist in a comfortable safe place. Pictorials and explanations of what is normal and what is not with periods. Abdominal sonogram can be performed ahead! No pelvic exam required.
Teenage intro to Gynecology
You nervously go to your first visit to a gynecologist seeking help for heavy, painful cycles. You don’t want to miss cross country practice or dance team. You don’t understand why your friends aren’t home in bed with a heat pack when their “flo” comes into town. The first visit doesn’t go well. You leave in tears because the Dr says painful periods are normal and you must just want birth control for your skin. He tells you your retroverted uterus will likely leave you unable to carry children. You leave the office in tears.
The trust in Doctors creating a safe space is already broken. You attempt to manage on your own and may even be told by family members or health teachers it’s normal and to tough it out.
Sound familiar?
We provide a supportive and educational setting.
Has your teen been told painful, heavy cycles are normal? Are they missing school often when it’s “that time of the month?” Have they been relegated already to an “IBS” diagnosis for nausea and bowel symptoms that occur with cyclic regularity?
ESSE Care is a haven where teenagers can freely express their concerns about their periods or abdominal symptoms without being judged. We are dedicated to fostering a secure, private space where teens receive informative care that is customized to their needs. Dr. Karli Provost Goldstein and the team know firsthand what it is like to go through adolescence with abnormal periods and how scary those first visits with a doctor can be.
Dr. Karli Provost Goldstein’s nurturing approach as a patient who went through it herself and as a mother of two young girls herself shapes the safe space she has created at ESSE. Teens can feel safe with our team to voice their concerns and be given the podium. We often encourage time with them and then time with families so they feel comfortable and heard confidentially.
