We make it easy on you, your biggest task is to recover!

  • Begin your day with a filling meal.
  • Post-breakfast, stick to clear liquids like broths, sports drinks, and black coffee.
  • At 9 am take nausea medication provided (metoclopramide)
  • At 10 am possible insertion of vaginal tablet if instructed.
  • Bowel prep starts From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., use prescribed products such as Miralax or prescription bowel prep ordered. The second dose will be around 4 pm. If you tend to have more difficulty passing stool then you may need to adjust and start this earlier in the morning.
  • We recommend the nausea medication 1 hour before starting bowel prep to lessen side effects!
  • Drink fluids to maintain electrolyte balance until midnight. Examples include coconut water, tea with honey, broth with salt in it, Gatorade of your choice, or other electrolyte-rich clear fluids.

Adhere to any additional guidance from Dr. Karli Provost Goldstein or the surgical team, including antibiotics if prescribed.

Before Surgery:

It is crucial not to eat or drink on the morning of the surgery unless recommended by the hospital for ERAS protocol. Your cooperation is essential for a safe and effective procedure and reduce the risk of complications under anesthesia.

After Surgery:

  • Take prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for pain.
  • Use over-the-counter pain relievers and digestive aids as needed.
  • Take life extension magnesium supplements to kick start the bowel.
  • Drink clear liquids and broths to stay hydrated.
  • Follow a bland diet with foods like rice, mashed potatoes, and pasta.
  • Eat easy-to-digest foods such as eggs, toast, and soups.
  • Avoid spicy and dairy-rich foods.
  • Use carbonated drinks to help with gas pain, but consume in moderation.

We are dedicated to your care and recovery. If you have any questions or need clarity on the instructions, our team is here to support you every step of the way.

  • Post-op check with Dr. Karli Provost-Goldstein within 10 days. This can be local or telehealth if needed.
  • Once pathology results are in (typically 2 weeks) they will be reviewed by the doctor and then released to you.
  • Keep incisions clean and dry with STERI-strips for 1 week.
  • No band-aids or Neosporin for 3-4 weeks; use SPF 50 on incisions.
  • Light vaginal bleeding is normal; heavy or dizzying symptoms require a call to the office.
  • Nausea post-op may need medication; Benadryl 50mg at bedtime can help.
  • No heavy lifting or abdominal exercises for 6 weeks.
  • Walking is recommended after surgery.
  • Swimming is allowed after 3-4 weeks once incisions heal; avoid hot tubs for 6 weeks due to bacteria.
  • Gentle workouts like walking, yoga, and elliptical machines are okay after 3-4 weeks; build up slowly.

Each patient is unique and will have a customized plan depending on their case. Some patients may elect to go on birth control following. Many will have a break from this and let their body recover with acupuncture and low inflammatory diet. Others may need hormone replacement due to menopause or peri-menopause.

Dr. Karli Provost-Goldstein does not generalize and uses a set plan for every patient. This will be discussed on your visits with her according to your needs and desires.
